GOLF OUTING
The Dearborn Hills Civic Association is interested in starting an annual Golf Outing to bring our neighbors closer together and to raise funds for our community.
Anyone interested in volunteering to head a committee, sponsor the outing, or work at the outing, please contact a board member. Thank You.
SLOGAN
The Dearborn Hills Civic Association is actively looking for a neighborhood slogan. If you have an idea you would like us to consider please send it to our president Robert Seeley. Currently, various ideas have been submitted including:
Where every house is different.
Or
A great place to live.
You participation in this project is important to us.
FLOWER AND ISLAND COMMITTEE
The Flower and Island Committee is looking for volunteers to help with the many islands located in
our neighborhood. The islands are a beautiful asset and integral part of our community. Several of the
neighborhood islands have been maintained beautifully for years by concerned citizens in our neighborhood.
This year, the theme for the islands is Red. We believe that a splash of red on the islands will enhance
the beauty of the neighborhood and will be captivating for those of us who live and walk through the neighborhood.
The beautification of our islands will undoubtedly increase the visibility of our neighborhood as well as ensure
that our property value remain competitive in an extremely challenging market.
The help being requested comes in three forms. First, we are in need of several people willing to adopt
an island, or part of a large island. There are currently a few unclaimed islands in need of work and TLC.
Second, we need volunteers willing to help plant, weed, water, and care for the islands but not able to make
a firm commitment of adopting an island. Third, we need the help of people who live around the island who are
willing to allow us to use their electric and / or water service to care for the islands near their home.
Together, working as one, we can make a real difference. Our neighborhood needs your skills, time, and support.
Please consider becoming a volunteer.
Anyone willing to volunteer in any capacity on the islands, please contact Sandy McKenty at 313-274-7263
NEIGHBORHOOD SERVICES
The City of Dearborn provides many services to all of its residents to ensure that all residents live in a safe,
clean, and secure environment. The Neighborhood Services division of the City of Dearborn is one division in
charge of providing these services for our community.
Neighborhood Services is a division of the City's Building and Safety Department in charge of enforcing the
City of Dearborn Ordinances relating to the maintenance and cleanliness of homes and yards within our neighborhood. The Dearborn Hills has its very own inspector, Mr. T. Johnson.
Mr. Johnson drives through our neighborhood every day inspecting our homes and yards. He is looking for
vacant homes or ordinance violations that can cause other problems for the neighborhood. Upon noticing a
violation Mr. Johnson gives the resident/property owner a warning including notice of the violation. If the
violation is not corrected within the time provided on the notice Mr. Johnson will issue two additional warnings.
If the violation is not cured Mr. Johnson will file a complaint with the appropriate governmental division and
issue a citation.
Some of the most common ordinance violations that Mr. Johnson comes into contact with include; Trash bins
visible from the street, Trash containers taken out before 5pm on the day before trash pickup, trash containers
left out after 5 pm on the day of trash
NEIGHBORHOOD SERVICES CONTINUED
pickup, grass over six inches high, noxious weeds (weeds over one foot tall), and items stored behind
garages on the ground (must be six inches above ground to deter pests). Once a citation is issued the
resident/property owner will have to address and defend the matter in Court before one of our District
Court Judges
Mr. Johnson is also looking for vacant properties to ensure that they are kept clean and safe, free of
waste, weeds, or other hazardous materials. If you are having problems with a vacant property contact
Mr. Johnson. Mr. Johnson will contact the property owner and ensure that all problems are promptly addressed.
If we all work together and ensure that these items are done every week, we can continue to make our
neighborhood a much safer, cleaner and happier place to live for our families and especially for our children.
Any questions about his service please contact Mr. Johnson at Neighborhood Services by calling 313-943-2161.
FINALLY.
You will find the membership slip on the bottom of this newsletter. Please take the time to fill it out and
send it in with your dues. Your annual dues go to help keep the community strong and vibrant.
Your support is what keeps this association alive, well, and providing valuable services to our residents.
Many of the services come in the form of neighborhood events and information. The website at http://www.dearbornhills.org is provided for our residents with the dues money that you pay. The Dearborn
Hills Civic Association ensures that anyone building within the boundaries of the association are doing so
according to the neighborhood's deed restrictions. To review the deed restrictions, please look at our website at http://www.dearbornhills.org.
Yearly events are provided for your enjoyment at no cost or minimal cost for being a member. We provide
the garage sale permits for any member free of charge. The association preserves the aesthetics of the
community by caring for the Islands in our community and gathering support for the Islands among our neighbors.
The association receives and reviews complaints made by our neighbors, investigates those complaints, and either
assists in correcting the problem or refers the resident to the proper place that can assist them.
The Association also serves as a liaison between the community and the city, addressing your concerns and
complaints and requesting further improvements and development within the community. Ultimately we are here
for you and serve you, so if there is any way that we can help you or the community, do not hesitate to
let us know.
