From Your Dearborn Hills Board
Posted on Jul 21st, 2020

Dearborn Hills Residents,

Recently, Channel 7 did a news report about a disgruntled property owner, two residents and their complaints about the Dearborn Hills Civic Association (DHCA) plan review process. We were saddened to see that the reporter did not include the many additional details we shared, establishing that the accusations of discrimination are wholly unfounded and slanderous.

We want to make very clear to everyone that our plan review process is always done with professionalism and fairness towards all. The persons who do the plan reviews are persons highly qualified to make decisions. Their professional work includes: architecture, landscape design, real estate, and appraisals.  They make their recommendations to the board based on the deed restrictions, their professional experience, their long term residency and familiarity of  our Hills neighborhood.  They do all of this work for free, often working long hours with residents to help them create plans that satisfy the desires of our homeowners while satisfying the property deed restrictions.

All plan reviews are accepted or rejected based on the deed restrictions. A person's sex, race, ethnicity, nation of origin, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability status or any other trait of that person has no bearing in how these decisions are made.

Put simply, the allegations against the board are false and slanderous.

Furthermore, we're embarking on a campaign to show the real Dearborn Hills, to talk about the diversity of our residents, the harmony of our neighborhood and neighbors, and the lifestyle that living in Dearborn Hills affords. We're going to be showing the many positive experiences residents have, and the unique history and character of Dearborn Hills.

Lastly, if you'd like to support our efforts to enforce the neighborhood deed restrictions, you can go to our website, www.dearbornhills.org,  and donate specifically to the legal fund.

Thank you for your continued support,
DHCA Board
